FAQ
Questions worth answering first.
If yours is not here, call or write. You will reach James, not a desk that passes the note along.
Where do you work?
The shop is in Massapequa. I take work across Long Island — Nassau County, Suffolk County, the North Fork, and the East End.
Who actually does the work?
James DiSclafani. He designs it, builds it in his shop, and installs it. When you call JPD Woodwork, you are calling the person who will be in the house.
What kinds of projects do you take?
Custom cabinetry and built-ins, fine carpentry and architectural millwork, and custom saunas, indoors or out. If a job is a better fit for another trade, I will say so.
How does a project start?
Send a note through the quote form, or call. A few photographs and the town are enough to begin. If it makes sense to go further, we look at the space and I draw the work before anything is built.
How much does a project cost?
There is no rate card. Price follows the size of the piece, the wood, the hardware, and the condition of the room. You will see a number before any work begins. I do not publish a range, because a published range would be a guess.
How long does it take?
It depends on the shop schedule and the scope. I will tell you a realistic window after I understand the work, and before you commit. I would rather name a date I can keep than promise a fast one.
Can you work from my plans, or with my architect or builder?
Yes. Send drawings, sketches, or photos with the quote request. I am glad to build from an architect’s or designer’s drawings, and to coordinate with a builder already on the job.
What woods do you use?
Whatever the piece and the room call for. Cabinetry is often quartersawn or rift-sawn white oak, walnut, maple, or cherry. Sauna interiors are typically clear cedar or aspen, because those woods stay kinder in heat. The species is chosen during design, not assumed.
Do you sell sauna kits or heaters on their own?
No. A sauna from this shop is designed and built for a specific house. I am not a heater dealer, and I do not sell prefabricated kits.
What should I send with a quote request?
Your name, the town, the kind of project, a rough budget and timeline if you have them, and a short description. One photo or plan can be attached to the form. If you have more, email them to jpdwoodwork@gmail.com.
