About
James DiSclafani.
JPD Woodwork is a one-person shop. The person who answers the phone is the person who draws the work, builds it, and installs it.
The shop is in Massapequa. The work travels across Long Island — Nassau, Suffolk, and the East End — wherever the house is.
Keeping the job in one pair of hands is the point of the practice. There is no handoff from a showroom to a crew you have not met. A question about a reveal, a wood, or a bench height is answered by the same person who will be standing in the room.
The craft is old in the ways that matter. Doors are fitted. Trim is scribed to plaster that was never flat. Casework is built to stay square. Drawings come first, so the piece is decided before it is cut, and the parts land where the drawing said they would.
Saunas sit in the same practice. A hot room has to be detailed for heat, moisture, and air, and then it has to be built carefully. I treat that as millwork with a harder job to do.
